Organ Pipe display while the choir sung "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" Sunday Feb 17 Music and the Spoken Word was a President’s Day special and was amazing.   We really enjoyed the music which was all familiar.   The choir ended with Battle Hymn of the Republic which when sung by the Tabernacle Choir is inspiring.   The background display on the tabernacle organ was beautiful and is shown above.   I liked the spoken word by Lloyd Newell.   He told a story about George Washington that I had not heard before and it shows his outstanding leadership qualities.   The Spoken Word ended with the quote from his eulogy in 1799- he was “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”   Here is the story about George Washington.        According to popular legend, an officer in the Revolutionary War once directed his men to fell some trees and construct a much-needed bridge.   As the soldiers struggled mightily with the task, an imposing-loo

Sunday Feb 10 Attended Music and the Spoken Word.   We sat next to a family from Idaho.   They are here to take their son to the MTC.   He will be serving as a missionary in France.   I was able to talk to them some. He doesn’t speak French but has studied Spanish.   I told him the learning Spanish is a great help to be able to learn French. It began snowing in the evening and the wind was strong blowing in my estimates well over 30 miles an hour.  We were happy to just stay indoors. Here is a link on lds.org about the devotional. President Nelson wrote an article for the Arizona Republic that was published before the devotional.  Here are a couple

Here is a picture of the beautiful scenery when the air is clear and we can see the mountains.  This is taken from the steps of the State Capital Building. Sunday Jan 27                        We attended Music and the Spoken Word in the morning and our City Creek Branch meetings from 1 to 3pm.   One of my weekly assignments is to create the Sunday bulletin.   I normally finish it on Sunday and review it at our weekly branch leadership meeting on Monday afternoon and then make suggested updates and send it to our branch president to get it printed for the following Sunday.   I also make sure that assignments for Sacrament meeting talks and prayers and priesthood lessons are arranged for. Since this is the fourth Sunday of the month, we participated in our fifth-floor dinner for all the residents on the fifth floor in the building. The main floor social room where we normally meet was occupied due to a scheduling conflict so we held the dinner in the hallway on the f
