Sunday May 19 We had light rain on the way to Music and the Spoken Word and heavier rain on the way home from our branch meeting.   We both took umbrellas so we avoided getting wet. We had six young Elders over for dinner tonight.   Sister Tolman made a special request for some Elders who have wanted to enjoy one of Sister Tolman’s wonderful dinners.   We had breakfast for dinner with egg casserole, hash brown potatoes, French toast and fruit (grapes and watermelon).   All six enjoyed their dinner.   Those for dinner were Elders Briggs, Slack, Gatlin, Devine, Spears, Barron.   L to R Elders Barron, Biggs, Slack, Tolman, Spears, Gatlin, Devine Monday May 20 We attended the Monday morning devotional.   It was very interesting as we learned about the Discovery Floor (Main Floor) in the FHL. There is overlap between what we do in Help Services and what is done on Discovery.  The flowers are now all replanted around Temple Square. On Sunday and today, I continued to wor

Sunday May 12 The flowers around Temple Square are mostly removed except for those right next to the temple.   I am sure a new planting will be done soon.   We did see some iris around and some other flowers but the daffodils and tulips have run their course.   Music and the Spoken Word had a Mother’s Day theme.   The Bells at Temple Square joined the choir and the orchestra.   After the broadcast we saw Tekehu and Henriette Munanui and her sister Simon.   We talked to them last week.   They all thanked me for the Tahiti pictures that I sent them.   I am so glad that I scanned my Tahiti slides before coming on our mission here so I was able to save these pictures. After our church meetings, we went to dinner at Sister Tolman’s sister Marn’s home for dinner.   We picked up mom and dad senior and took them there. Monday May 13 We attended the Monday morning devotional and learned about the Church History Library Zone.  After their presentation President Fenn shared

An early Mothers' Day surprise for Sister Tolman from her daughter Christina received on Thursday night Sunday May 5 We attended Music and the Spoken Word.   The spoken word was about the 150 year anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad which is commemorated this week on May 10.  After the broadcast w e met a couple that we had talked to on Saturday afternoon and evening in the library.   I gave them some hints about seeing the parks in Utah and Arizona (see more about them on the Thursday entry). After the broadcast, we stopped and talked to a sister missionary from Tahiti (Taravao district on Tahiti).   We then saw Tekehu and Henriette Munanui (we have been friends since 1970).   They introduced us to Henriette’s sister Simone and I immediately remembered her from my missionary time when I served on the Island of Raiatea.   We took pictures and Tekehu gave me his email address and Simone’s.   I emailed them copies of some of my slides from 19

The flowers are so beautiful around Temple Square. Here is a picture taken before church on Sunday taken just east of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building . Update from Sister Tolman for this week (see more on Saturday) This week has been interesting as far as our schedules go.  On Tuesday I was not at the desk at all as far as an assignment goes.  I did help out a couple of times but nothing more than showing how to find books or helping to print.  It was kind of the same way on Wednesday and on Thursday evening I was actually able to help someone with an account. A couple came in from San Francisco and I was able to help the husband.   He was African American and so we knew from the beginning that it may be challenging.   We were able to find a couple of census records that added his father’s siblings and he remembered most of them.   When we found the second census we found a different wife.   He had kind of forgotten about her but when he saw her name and the kids he re
