Sunday July 21 We enjoyed breakfast with my sister JoAnne Barlow and her husband Craig.  They stayed overnight with us so they could attend Music and the Spoken Word before returning home to Santaquin, Utah (about an hour drive).  Music and the Spoken Word was amazing.   Choir with Sissel and her family in the front center An emotional Sissel as the choir sings God Be with You 'Til We Meet Again Here is a link to the Pioneer concert that we attended on Saturday night.   Pioneer Concert YouTube   A copy of the program is shown below.  We saw Dave & Julie Curtis and Richard and Ann Ray for a short visit in front of our apartment.   The Ray’s flew up from Arizona to participate in the Pioneer concert on Saturday night and Music and the Spoken Word Sunday morning.  The Ray's stayed with the Curtis' for the weekend. Sunday July 14   Today was the 90-year anniversary of the Tabernacle Choir broadcast.   The first song sung by the choir was “The Morning Breaks“.   This song was sung to start that first broadcast in 1929.   There have only been 3 announcers since the start:   Richard L. Evans (41 years), J Spencer Kinard (18 years) and Lloyd D Newell (since 1990).   We had our picture taken in in the Conference Center lobby in front of a commemoration display.  July 14 is also the French Independence Day called Bastille Day.   I enjoyed three of these holidays while on my mission in French Polynesia.   They have a lot of singing and dancing and the celebration lasts for about a month.   Sister Tolman and I also participated in Bastille Day in 1998 when we visited Tahiti together on a 10-day vacation. We had six young Elders for dinner.   Sister Tolman fixed egg drop soup and chicken chow mein.   We have just enough leftovers for one meal for the two of us. See the picture below.

We had a beautiful sunset on Tuesday night. Sunday July 7 Sister Tolman fixed breakfast burritos for our daughter Janny and her children April, Courtney and Elijah.   We completed packing her vehicle as they will be returning home this morning.   We all attended Music and the Spoken Word at the Conference Center.   Janny and family stayed for the run through and then left for home just after 9am.   As we stepped out to say goodbye and give them all hugs, I noticed that Patricia Keller whom I helped yesterday at the library was sitting on our same row.   I was good to see her again.   This is two weeks in a row that I have seen a person at Music and the Spoken Word whom I helped the previous day at the library. We had an excellent Fast and Testimony meeting with all shared testimonies being short and heart felt testimonies of Heavenly Father, His son Jesus Christ, prophets, and the Book of Mormon. We went to Seniors for dinner.   Sister Tolman took leftovers of pulled po

Here are a few pictures of the beautiful flowers around Temple Square.  It is wonderful to be able to walk through and around Temple Square as we are serving our mission here.  It was so great to have our daughter Janny and her family with us during this week. Sunday June 30 We attended Music and the Spoken Word and it was exceptional.   As they said during the broadcast, nobody does patriotic music like the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.   It was truly inspiring.   A couple next to us was from Surprise, Arizona.   We also talked to Linda Wallace and her daughter and granddaughter whom we helped in the library on Saturday as they were sitting just a couple of rows in front of us.    Conference Center podium area decorated with Independence Day Theme Our Sacrament meeting and Sunday School meetings were inspiring and uplifting. Monday July 1 We attended our once a week mission devotional.  For this devotional we heard from eight missionaries
