Sunday Mar 3 We thought we were through with snow since we are in the month of March but that is not true as others from this area have indicated to us.   We woke up to a beautiful scene outside with snow that had fallen overnight.   The trees really look beautiful.   The snow was mostly gone when we walked back from church at 3pm. Music and the Spoken Word was beautiful, especially the last song which was “Guide us O Thou Great Jehovah”.  The spoken word subject was “The Best Ships Are Friendships”.  Quoting from the message.  “At the state funeral for former United States President George H. W. Bush in December 2018, former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney ended the eulogy of his dear friend with these words “There are wooden ships, there are sailing ships, there are ships that sail the sea.  But the best ship are friendships, and may they always be””. We enjoyed dinner with mom and dad Senior. We were going to call them t...

The RootsTech Tree Symbol which is unique Sunday Feb 24 I have been thinking about how much I am enjoying this mission serving in the Utah Salt Lake City Headquarters Mission assigned to the Family History Library.   It is very rewarding to help the wide variety of guests who visit the library. I also enjoy the friends that we are making among the other missionaries. We enjoyed Music and the Spoken Word.   One whole section on the main floor was reserved for individuals attending an “Au Pair” (nanny) conference.   Of course, we attended church from 1 to 3pm.    . Today is Sister Tolman's father Rowland Senior’s 91st birthday.   We went to her sister Jayne’s home for dinner.   Sister Tolman baked an apple cake for dessert.   It was good to be able to have all of her siblings together.    Rowland Senior with his new WWII Veteran's cap Rowland and Lois Senior with his birthday cake made by Sister Tolman Monday...

Organ Pipe display while the choir sung "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" Sunday Feb 17 Music and the Spoken Word was a President’s Day special and was amazing.   We really enjoyed the music which was all familiar.   The choir ended with Battle Hymn of the Republic which when sung by the Tabernacle Choir is inspiring.   The background display on the tabernacle organ was beautiful and is shown above.   I liked the spoken word by Lloyd Newell.   He told a story about George Washington that I had not heard before and it shows his outstanding leadership qualities.   The Spoken Word ended with the quote from his eulogy in 1799- he was “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”   Here is the story about George Washington.        According to popular legend, an officer in the Revolutionary War once directed his men to fell some trees and construct a much-needed bridge.   As the sold...
