August 18-19 - Weekend Update

Saturday August 18
We cleaned the apartment.  I vacuumed the floor and Sister Tolman did the rest of the cleaning and laundry.  We worked on some family history and did some reading.

We had an adventure as Sister Tolman found a discount store called “The NPS Store” (National Product Sales, Inc).   We went there to check it out.  When we walked in I asked if we needed a cart and Sister Tolman said “Yes”.  We brought home a cart full of food at less than half the cost at a regular store.  You can read about this store at www.npsstore.com/about  Here is a quote from the website “NPS uses both brick and mortar and online channels to sell a vast variety of items from just about any category. The NPS Store located on 1600 Empire Road in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a bargain hunter’s paradise with great deals to be found on grocery, clothing, housewares, electronics, and collectibles 6 days a week. Across the street is the NPS Industrial Store where you can find great deals on sporting goods, furniture, hardware and tools.”  I can always count of my companion Sister Tolman to find fun places to shop.

We had a wonderful dinner of fresh rainbow trout, mixed vegetables and garlic bread.  Dave Curtis gave us the trout when after we played golf last Tuesday.

We attended a concert from 7:30 to 8:30pm at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square.  The group was the “Beehive Statesman” with classic barbershop singing by a local group.

Sunday August 19
We attended Music and the Spoken Word this morning.  For June through August the broadcast is held at the conference center and it will be at the Tabernacle the rest of the year.  It was amazing to be personally there to witness the broadcast.  While looking at the broadcast program, you can enlarge it and actual read the program details.

Choir Broadcast Program - Aug 19, 2018

We attended our new branch today.  It is the City Creek Branch.  Both branches meet a 1pm in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  With our new branch we have Sacrament Meeting first which we prefer.

Sister Tolman fixed dinner which was waffles with peanut butter, syrup and raspberry jelly (from Byron and Peggy Tolman). There is nothing wrong with breakfast food for dinner.

We talked to some family and friends on the phone this morning and this afternoon which is a good Sunday activity.  One of the perks of being senior missionaries is being able to stay in touch with friends and family.

We are looking forward to starting our assignment at the Family History Center tomorrow morning.
