August 4 - Saturday, First Full Day at Salt Lake City


Got up at our normal early time at about 6am.  We both had a good night’s sleep.  The bed is comfortable. We really have a nice apartment. We finished unloading our suitcases and a making progress at organizing the apartment.  I setup our desktop computer and printer and managed to get that all working.  We moved a desk from the front room to the second bedroom where the computer, printer and router are located.  We also moved a night stand from the second bedroom to the main bedroom so both of us could have a night stand.

We completed some shopping this morning.  First we had free shopping to find items at a swap meet for our apartments that missionaries going home had left behind.  We picked up a lot of items that we needed but had not brought with us.  If these items are serviceable, we will leave most of it behind when we return home in 18 months. We got our walking exercise as we went shopping at Walmart and then at Costco.  We now have more stuff to put away.  We purchased a lot of home furnishing items as well as a few groceries.

We did our second round of shopping going to Dollar Tree, Harmons (grocery store), Ace Hardware and McDonalds for ice cream.

Church is at 1pm Sunday at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and we start our training on Monday.  We have a devotional to attend at 7:15am so we will be starting early.

Sister Tolman's talk During the Christmas holiday’s I read a short book titled The Miracle Maker and it got me to thinking.  What are the miracles in our lives and who is the miracle maker that makes them happen.   I then started thinking about what we will be studying next year and the combination of the two brought this talk into being. Here is the missionary plaque that we received from our ward. Lynne put together an amazing picture book of 106 pages documenting many of the amazing experiences that we had on our mission.  You can access the book at this link Included below are various letters and documents related to our call and release.  Also included is the certificate earned by Lynne Tolman for completing the US / Canada Training Here are our call letters signed by President Nelson.  Here is our release letter and release certificates signed by our mission president Jerry D. Fenn. Here is the US / Canada Training completion certificate for Lynne.  She also completed the British training.  She received pins for both of these accomplishments. The last two documents are release certificates given to us by our zone leaders in the US / Canada Zone signed by our Zone Leaders and Assistant Zone Leaders

September 29 - October 5 - Sunday to Saturday

Here is a picture of Elder Tolman with Teave Temahuki, a missionary companion while serving on Huahine, French Polynesia.  Teave is visiting from Tahiti with his wife and staying with their daughter who lives in Saratoga Springs.  Teave is also 72 and they have eight children.  We visited his family during our vacation to Tahiti in 1998.  I saw him on Thursday night. Sunday Sep 29 We attended Music and the Spoken Word.   It was Fast Sunday.   During our Fast and Testimony meeting Elder Olsen who conducted the meeting and Sister Robinson our Zone Leader were the only senior missionaries who bore testimonies.   The rest were Young Elders.   I needed to identify a person to be a Sunday School Teacher and prayed to be able to identify someone during the meeting who could serve.
