August 6 - Monday the First Day of Mission Training


Yea, we finally have our parking place resolved.  We now have an assigned parking space #84.  We checked our mail today and our mail box was stuffed with mail from previous missionaries.  We did get a couple of items addressed to us so we are now getting mail either directly or forwarded from our Golf address. 

We had a 90 minute devotional this morning.  All the new missionaries were introduced.  This is a weekly event.  We really enjoyed the meeting.  We started our training at 9am. Today was basic training on computer skills and FamilySearch.org.  Both of us got through the first two lessons fairly easily.  We work individually and are evaluated individually by trainers who sign off that we have passed off the learning.

We had a tasty lunch with asparagus, stuffed chicken, and thin spiraled spaghetti.  Desert was a crepe with vanilla cream and strawberry filling plus ice cream.  President and Sister Fenn (our mission president) sat at our table.  Both attended West High.  They remembered my uncle Knight B Kerr who was the principal at West for a number of years.  Pres Fenn was Bishop of a YSA Ward that met in the Garden Park Ward building (my ward growing up) in Salt Lake so it was fun to share all the unique things about that building (individual theatre type seats in the chapel, beautiful pictures on the chapel wall, two story building, duck pond and creek running through the property).  This is where we had our wedding reception.


Following more training we went to the church office building to get pictures for our access badges.  Another couple was with us and we decided to take a tour of the building on the main floor and the top floor.  Here is a beautiful picture on the main floor.

December 30 Sacrament Meeting Talks

Sister Tolman's talk During the Christmas holiday’s I read a short book titled The Miracle Maker and it got me to thinking.  What are the miracles in our lives and who is the miracle maker that makes them happen.   I then started thinking about what we will be studying next year and the combination of the two brought this talk into being. The book is about a sad and lonely little village where everything is dreary because everyone is dreary.  They hear a great man is coming and he will bring a great miracle to the town.  An old run down man walks into town carrying a chicken and everyone knows it can’t be him.  He rents an old run down house and starts to clean it up.  He takes a stone to the stonecutter and sells it to buy flour for bread and meal for his chicken and some seeds to plant.  He plants the seeds and feeds himself and his chicken.  This routine continues every day and the house starts to look better as the seeds sprout and the rocks are removed from the grassy

March 15, 2020 - Mission Documents

Here is the missionary plaque that we received from our ward. Lynne put together an amazing picture book of 106 pages documenting many of the amazing experiences that we had on our mission.  You can access the book at this link Included below are various letters and documents related to our call and release.  Also included is the certificate earned by Lynne Tolman for completing the US / Canada Training Here are our call letters signed by President Nelson.  Here is our release letter and release certificates signed by our mission president Jerry D. Fenn. Here is the US / Canada Training completion certificate for Lynne.  She also completed the British training.  She received pins for both of these accomplishments. The last two documents are release certificates given to us by our zone leaders in the US / Canada Zone signed by our Zone Leaders and Assistant Zone Leaders

January 12 - 18 - Sunday to Saturday

Sunday Jan 12 We woke up to snow this morning.   I enjoyed throwing a few snowballs and enjoying the scenery.    You can see the snow on the Salt Lake Temple   These snow covered cacti are in the median on West Temple Street We enjoyed Music and the Spoken Word.   What a blessing this has been during our mission to attend each week.   We have one more week to attend.   The men wore their white jackets and the women wore light blue.   See the contrast in colors in the picture below. We enjoyed dinner at mom and dad Seniors and then looked at some family pictures that they had on several CD’s.   Sister Tolman brought them home and then copied them to her computer on Monday.
