August 31 - September 2 - Friday thru Monday (Labor Day)
Friday August 31
We worked from 8am to 4pm at the Family History Library with
an hour break for lunch. I helped several
people have a good experience connecting with their ancestors. I helped two different couples and a young
man. It is very rewarding to help
individuals connect with ancestors and have them see pictures and historical
records about their ancestors. After helping
one of the two couples the wife asked if she could take a picture of me and a
small stuffed toy monkey that she takes with her. So if you see a random picture of me on Facebook
don’t be surprised.
When not helping others finding their families, I did some indexing, personal family history, or helping other missionaries finding individuals to add to their families. It has been a while since I had done indexing so I will spend some time each week working on indexing or reviewing when I am not busy helping those who come to the library for help.
After returning home we sent food shopping at Luckys and
Smiths. I think that we are getting
close to having enough food around so Sister Tolman is comfortable with being
able to prepare meals.
Saturday September 1
Today is our 47th Wedding Anniversary and also
Michelle’s birthday. We received
messages or talked to most of our girls.
We really enjoy being able to have regular contact with our family. I posted a new picture on Facebook and
updated Facebook and the East High Leopard web page with information about our
schedule at the library starting on Tuesday.
I mentioned last week that I had contacted my friend Ira Gentry.
We arranged to meet him this morning at
8am at JB’s Restaurant right next to Temple Square for a breakfast buffet. This is the first time that I have seen him in
civilian clothes. He paid for breakfast
and said that this was a small payback for all the food I had purchased for him
during our visits over the years.

We went to the Family History Library and spent over two hours
there looking at his ancestors on Family Tree.
We have talked a lot about FamilyTree during our visits over the past several
years and this was the first time for him to experience what we had talked
about. He really enjoyed this. We will probably spend some more Saturday mornings
at the Library. We left the library and
walked around Temple Square before he left to spend the rest of the day with
his family.
Here is a picture of Ira and me just north of Temple Square.
I went back to the apartment just as Sister Tolman got back
from some shopping. We did some cleaning around the apartment. We left for the Olive Garden Restaurant in Sugarhouse where we met Byron
and Peggy Tolman for dinner at 6pm. They are staying near Park City at a
campground and arranged to come into town so we could visit. We ate dinner and spent about two hours with them
enjoying good food and talking. It was
so good to see them. Their daughter Raquel
and her son Bradon also joined us. We
had an excellent dinner with salad, breadsticks and an entrée. I had Lasagna
Classico and Sister Tolman had the Tour of Italy- Chicken Parmigiana, Lasagna
Classico and Fettuccine Alfredo.

We spent a very enjoyable Saturday celebrating our Wedding Anniversary.
Sunday September 2nd.
We attended Music and the Spoken Word. It was a wonderful concert with a visiting
performer from Australia – Patrice Tipoki.
The songs and message had a Labor Day theme. You can see the program detail below.

We attended church for our normal three hour block of
meetings. After returning to our
apartment we enjoyed a dinner of leftovers from last night’s meal at the Olive
Garden. After dinner we called Janny and talked to her for about an hour. We enjoy our phone visits with our family.
Monday September
Went shopping this morning to the NPS store and to
Walmart. We got our walking exercise
done along with a little shopping. We
had been trying to find a deal on sheets for our second bed and finally just bought
matching sheets at Walmart. Believe it
or not, I made the bed. So now we are
ready for visitors or if one of us snores too loud we can move to the second
bedroom.
We went to Sister Tolman’s parents for dinner. Dad Senior and I watched the last six holes
of the golf championship. All four of us then played
a game of Five Crowns. I won again. To keep peace next time I better not win.
I helped Dad Senior grill hamburgers for dinner.
Along with the hamburgers we enjoyed corn on the cob, chips, and potato salad with
ice cream for dessert. We had an very enjoyable
evening with them. After dinner we had some time to visit and played two games of seven-up.
